All My Children Recaps
AMC Week of August 13, 2007
Monday
Zach, Kendall, Ryan, Josh, Jonathan, Erica and Annie met with Joe and Dr. Norton, who informed them that Spike's hearing deficit was "extensive," meaning that he had suffered profound hearing loss in both ears and is deaf. As the docs explained that Spike has a chance to hear again with an implant, Kendall insisted that her son isn't deaf. Annie and Zach tried to console their respective spouses while Erica told Jack she knew exactly how Kendall felt — that she didn't want her child to be different. Greenlee, meanwhile, tried to sneak in to see Spike posing as Bianca. Josh nabbed her before she was able to get in to see the baby and confirmed to her that Spike is deaf. Greens, nearly hysterical, believed that she could do something to help the child and also that she could make Kendall forgive her if Josh would let her see her erstwhile best friend. Jon spotted Greenlee and demanded that she be thrown out of the hospital. "Nobody wants you here," he spat. Josh defended her, which further infuriated Jonathan.... Zach tried his best to get Kendall to rest, but she refused to leave Spike's side. Annie said she'd go check on Ian; Zach was grateful. At the park, Erica expressed her fear to Jack that their relationship couldn't survive what his family member had done to hers. Jack reminded Erica that they were taking about their family, as opposed to his and hers. Erica wasn't soothed. La Kane wanted to rejoin Kendall and turned down Jack's offer to accompany her. At The Comeback, Lenny the sleazy manager tried to convince Ava that he could make her a star. He didn't have to try hard. Colby and Krystal watched from across the room and it was obvious that Colby was in no hurry to forgive Ava for what she'd done to Sean. Greenlee showed up and ordered so much liquor that Krystal demanded her driver's license just to be safe. Greens complied and told Krystal about Spike's condition. Colby and Krystal were saddened by the news.... Ava bragged to Colby about the huge star she was going to become; Colby told her about Spike's deafness.... As Greenlee got more and more wasted, she was chatted up by a patron calling himself Wheels and she agreed to leave with him. An arriving Aidan intervened before Greenlee could do her last shot; he watched with alarm as Greens drew Wheels into a sloppy kiss. Ava showed up at the hospital with a teddy bear and balloons for Jonathan (well, for Spike via Jonathan). Jon was touched and expressed his gratitude to Ava.
Tuesday
Ryan expressed his frustration to Zach over Kendall's unwillingness to consider the cochlear implant surgery for Spike. The tension between Zach and Ryan reached a boiling point when Zach wouldn't tell Ryan how he was handling the Greenlee situation. Their heated confrontation included some low blows, like Ryan pointing out that his sister died at Alexander's hands. Later, Ryan spent some quality time with Emma. At The Comeback, Aidan tried to wrestle a soused Greenlee away from Wheels. Aidan dragged Greens outside and she came on to him; Aidan wasn't interested. Greens got sick due to too much alcohol then sat down with Aidan to talk more calmly. Aidan told Greenlee he was no longer working with Zach. Aidan recommended to Greenlee that she admit the truth about the accident to Kendall. Greens was terrified of going to jail, she made clear. For his part, Aidan made clear that he believed Greenlee to be headed down a destructive path. Annie arrived at Fusion and updated Di on Spike's condition. Di was concerned when Annie revealed that she'd made contact with a mysterious someone in an effort to help Spike. Said person hadn't returned her message yet, Annie told Di, who advised her to come clean with Ryan about her past. A jumpy Annie then made covert arrangements to travel out of town. In Spike's room, Kendall got a call from Bianca, who was in Paris. Binks picked up on Kendall's conflicted feelings for Ian. Next, Kendall spoke to Jack, telling him she wanted him to put Greenlee in jail. Zach stopped by while Kendall was napping and chatted with Spike, bringing him to meet his little brother, Ian.... Kendall dreamed about a fun family picnic with Zach and her boys that was interrupted by Greenlee. In her dream, Kendall stabbed Greens in the stomach. When Kendall woke up, Greenlee (the actual one) was standing over her.
Wednesday
At the Yacht Club, Ava and Jonathan sat down for a dinner date. Ava enjoyed
being treated like a celebrity. When JR arrived with Amanda on his arm, he
drew some attention away from Ava, who was resentful. As photographers
snapped pics of JR and Ava, they traded insults. Back at her table, Ava
asked Jon if she should get a publicist, and a stylist — and then
remembered
that his family was in crisis. She apologized for being so "me, me, me."
Across the room, JR ranted about Ava but Amanda interrupted him to have a
quick state of the union conversation. He wanted to just have fun. "I got
it," she said.
At Fusion, Ryan was anxious to find Annie. Di covered for her, offering only
that Annie was doing research to try to help Spike. Ryan sensed that
something more was afoot but Di remained mum. After Ryan left, Babe pressed
Di for the true story about what was going on with Annie but Di told her to
back off.
Annie showed up at the doorstep of her estranged father, Walter, who is
deaf. She told her dad that a little boy had just lost his hearing and she
needed his help. He told her to leave. She said she would but begged him to
tell her the name of the woman, Elizabeth, who'd helped him after he lost
his hearing. She revealed that she had remarried and that her stepson was
the one who'd gone deaf. Walter provided Annie with an address and told her
to look for help there. She also told him that she had a daughter, whom
she'd named after Mom. She showed him a picture of Emma before leaving.
Annie then headed to the address her dad had given her: her mom's grave. She
broke down in tears.
Kendall woke up in Spike's room to find Greenlee standing over her. She
icily told Greens that she'd just had a dream about killing her. Greenlee
tried to explain why she felt she couldn't leave town. Kendall was not
interested in hearing how contrite Greenlee was and told her to go. A
sobbing Greenlee told Kendall to go ahead and kill her. Greens begged
Kendall not to throw away their friendship; Kendall wasn't hearing it. "I
can never forgive you," she spat. Ryan walked in as Kendall was vowing to do
whatever she could to make Greenlee pay. Greens shuffled off and Ryan closed
the door in her face.
Thursday
At The Yacht Club, a hungover Greenlee filled in Josh about her unpleasant
encounter with Kendall at the hospital. When she wouldn't let Josh see what
she was doing on her laptop, he warned her to stay away from his family. He
left, then came back to sneak a look at her computer screen. "Search all you
want," he told Greenlee. "There are no cures for Spike." Once alone again,
though, Greens stumbled onto a Web site about an unorthodox physician named
Dr. Hilliard, who she hoped would be able to help Spike.
Kendall woke up and asked for Spike. Zach explained that he'd had the baby
moved to another room and brought her to her son's side. He also gave
Kendall a positive update on Ian's condition. While visiting Ian during his
feeding time, Kendall had a bad feeling about Spike and bolted. Zach
followed. She apologized to Zach for having left Ian's side. Zach promised
her their family would be whole again and treated his stressed-out wife to a
tender massage. Later, she received a call from Dr. Hilliard, who said, "I
believe I can help your son, Mrs. Slater." Unbeknownst to Kendall, Greenlee
was sitting in his office.
In Spike's room, Annie (back from her trip) greeted Ryan and asked where
Spike was. Ryan said that Zach had moved the child and Kendall to adjoining
rooms. Ryan came down on Annie for disappearing on him. Reluctantly, she
told him that she'd been to visit her father, who is deaf. She admitted to
Ryan that her father wanted nothing to do with her but fudged the real
reason why.... When Ryan learned Annie knew sign language, he asked her for
a lesson. She complied.
In her room at the Valley Inn, Erica was distracted by thoughts of the
crisis afoot with Kendall and the babies. Jack arrived and brandished their
divorce decree. "It's final," he said. "Our marriage is over." Erica stopped
Jack from leaving and they ended up sharing a room service meal "as
friends". "To our always connected but very separate new beginnings," was
the toast Erica proposed to Jack with her coffee cup. She began to cry and
Jack consoled her. Before long, they were making love. Afterwards, a
horrified Erica turned up the volume on the TV when she realized that the
argument she and Jack had had about Greenlee in the park had been secretly
taped by Pam and was being broadcast on the air. Jack was livid, thinking
that Erica was behind the stunt.
Friday
Unaware that he was calling at Greenlee's behest, Kendall got excited while
chatting with Dr. Hilliard, who claimed that he might be able to restore
Spike's hearing. Zach didn't share Kendall's zealous optimism and believed
that he'd managed to convince Kendall not to meet with the doc until Spike
had been released from the hospital. Greenlee insisted on remaining
anonymous to Dr. Hilliard. Back at the penthouse, Annie told a questioning
Ryan that her past wasn't important, helping Spike was. Ryan said he wanted
to know everything about her and pried Annie for more info. She tried to
play it cool while revealing that an accident had caused her father's
deafness. Later, Ryan went to the hospital — and panicked when he saw no
sign of Spike or Kendall.... Ian's doctor informed Zach that Ian needed
emergency brain surgery. "Find your wife," the doc commanded.
At ConFusion, Di broke the news to Aidan that she's moving to New York. He
knew the drill ("I'm a great guy who's going to make some girl very happy
someday"). They parted ways amicably.... Greenlee met up with Jack and
hinted that she'd done something that might ultimately earn her Ryan and
Kendall's forgiveness. Jack was in a sullen mood and read his selfish
daughter the riot act. Her interest was piqued. A fight ensued.
At the Yacht Club, Erica met with Jesse, the TV network exec, and lashed out
at him for airing the unauthorized Jack/Erica fight. She told him that both
her marriage and the show were over. Jesse urged her to reconsider and
pitched a new talk show co-hosted by her and Jack. Erica thought someone
like Jimmy Kimmel would be more suitable but Jesse insisted that she and
Jack were the dream team. Erica went to ConFusion to try to sell Jack on the
idea but he was adamantly opposed and stormed off. La Kane phoned Jesse and
lied that Jack had said he'd love to do the show.... Greenlee offered to buy
Aidan a drink. "Not now," he said, excitedly.
At home alone, Annie flipped out when she got a mysterious call from
someone playing a lullabye.
