Okay, so Robin Riker, who is playing the new Beth Logan on B&B, doesn't in any stretch of the imagination look old enough to be Brooke's mother but I have to admit that I already like this new incarnation.

Gloria's job troubles have been a hoot on Y&R. Of course, nearly killing Jeffrey by adding hot sauce to his coffee at Crimson Lights was terrible, as was the fact that she nearly burned down Lauren's boutique when she left on an iron.

If this was kindergarten and it was 12:30, it'd be naptime. But instead it's time for YAWN, I mean, YOUNG AND RESTLESS! I know we've said it before but I'm saying it again: Why oh why do TPTB at Y&R think we want to watch a show about business? ONE LIFE TO LIVE, for one, has done a terrific job of showing how the passing of oil tycoon Asa Buchanan affected the family business, which was ultimately taken right out from under the Buchanans by devious Dorian. OLTL told that story in a perfectly soapy way, not wasting any of its allotted 35 or so minutes a day (when you factor in commercials) on in-depth discussions of PRODUCT PACKAGING. It is one thing to tell a dramatic story involving the perils of owning a family business, but Y&R has taken the boring business talk to the Nth degree. Anytime I see Victor and Adam sitting around in that dim office wearing their drab suits, I have to do a little dance in my chair just to get the blood flowing. Here's an example from yesterday's episode:

With GREEK wrapped up for the semester, ABC Family has introduced THE MIDDLEMAN in the 8 o'clock slot on Mondays. Recognizing the concept in the commercials, I pulled out my The Middle Man comic books — not the trade collection, mind you; I bought the individual issues, which started coming out way back in 2005. I know the series is billed as based on the "graphic novels" by Javier Grillo-Marxuach, but I'm old enough to remember when these things were called comic books, so that's what they are to me. Grillo-Marxuach, or "Javi," as he likes to be called, wrote for the first two seasons of LOST, and is an executive producer on MEDIUM.

With all the talk about Michael's father Lowell on Young and Restless of late, it looks like the show might be looking to cast Gloria's drunken, hippy ex in the not-too-distant future.

On DOCTOR WHO, the Doctor and Donna land in 1926, and crash a crash a society party at Eddison Manor attended by noted mystery writer Agatha Christie. Soon enough, someone is offing party guests in a manner reminiscent of Christie's novels. Yes, the Doctor is involved in a Whodunit? This story immediately reminded me of "Black Orchid," a story in which the Fifth Doctor landed in 1925 and got invited to a masquerade ball at Cranleigh Hall, where someone was murdering guests in a manner not unlike a Christie story. No doubt you all recognized the Clue references (Prof. Peach, in the library, with a lead pipe, for example.)

June is a very busy month for me — school ends with a flurry of performances, conferences and activities for school.

I attended the Creative Crafts part of the Daytime Emmy Awards on Friday, June 13. (The winners are listed in the news section of this Web site, as is my attempt to be the roving reporter with the video camera.) As I cover ONE LIFE TO LIVE, I silently hope they win everything.

While I have always been a fan of time-travel stories, the 1970s was never even close to being my favorite era to visit. It still isn't, but I must admit that SWINGTOWN is actually making me hate the '70s less!

Katy Perry's cameo on Y&R was so LAME! It totally paled in comparison to Snoop's absolutely fabulous recent appearance on OLTL. Plus, viewers totally got duped — she didn't even perform!
