By Naomi Rabinowitz Posted: Oct 28, 2010As Digest's B&B editor, I was impressed with today's episode in which Stephanie (Susan Flannery) went to Los Angeles's Skid Row and interviewed the homeless to find out how they'd gotten to where they are in life. It was a different type of episode from what we usually see on soaps — especially for the glam B&B — but I thought that it was well done and offered a thorough look as to why some people end up on the streets. Those weren't actors, so their stories about enduring domestic abuse and other hardships were raw and real.
My only nitpicky wish is that this episode aired a bit later, even just a few days from now. Stephanie just had major surgery and had part of her lung removed, and yet she was well enough to sneak out and go downtown? When I had minor surgery on my leg this past April, I was out of it for several days afterward! I realize that we have to suspend reality on soaps, but in such a well-done, realistic storyline, I found this point a little jarring. Still, I appreciated getting a look into a side of Los Angeles that many of us don't often see.
