Because I write for a magazine, I probably think about YOUNG AND RESTLESS's Restless Style way more than I should, but I find the publication to be very confusing. Since it has "style" in its title and the characters frequently pose for artsy-looking shots, I'm assuming that it's supposed to be fashion oriented. Yet, Billy, Jill and now Phyllis, are always going after the "big story" in town. That said, if this is supposed to be a national magazine, why are the stories only about the Newmans and their friends (aside from the obvious answer, that it's their show)? Yes, Victor is supposed to be known around the world, but would readers outside of Genoa City really want to see a articles on Daniel, Cane or Lily (all who've been featured)? And is this supposed to be an upscale mag that covers a little of everything like Vanity Fair or is it more of a local publication? I also find it amusing that Phyllis was appointed editor-in-chief over coffee! Then again, this is a publication that is able to churn out an entire glossy magazine seemingly overnight. I don't mind if the show takes some liberties when it comes to portraying the publishing world — you should hear my lawyer husband's complaints about legal shows — but I wish that there'd at least be a little consistency about who does what for the magazine and what RS is supposed to be.
