By Danielle McClure Posted: Jun 11, 2010I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Colleen Zenk (Barbara, ATWT) for a feature interview that will appear in an upcoming issue of Digest and it wasn't until I had burned through an entire 60 minute tape (and a half!) recording our conversation that I realized just how much love the actress has for her daytime home, as evidenced by the oodles of memories and anecdotes she shared about her three decades in Oakdale.
When the subject of attending the Emmys came up, I pointed out that the awards will be taking place just three days after the last taping day at ATWT and wondered if that, plus the ATWT tribute scheduled for the ceremony, might put a bittersweet damper on the evening for her. Zenk, however, said it just gives her more reason to attend and cherish the night. "I've never been to Vegas so I'm definitely going to be there. It's our last year with the show. There were many, many years early on where I listened to bad advice about things and was cynical about the awards how and things we were being honored with. It frankly had to do more with not respecting the job, the show or the genre and looking down my nose at things I should've embraced. I was a much younger person then! I'd sit at home in my pajamas, which is a wonderful thing to do on Emmy night on certain times, but during years we were being awarded or the show was up for best show and I didn't go, I could kick myself now! I do think that those of use who can be should be there to honor what we've been given and what I was given was an extraordinary run of 32 years on an extraordinary show working with extraordinary people."
