Though I really wish that the talented Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) would get her own storyline on Y&R, I truly enjoyed the scenes where Victor proposed marriage to Nikki for the umpteenth time in the Newman Ranch stables. Nikki went to tell her ex that she wasn't ready to marry him again (and seriously, who could blame her? They've already been wed and divorced three times!), but when she arrived, she found the stables filled with red roses. Victor then rode in on a horse (!) and presented her with a ginormous engagement ring. Who could say no to that?! Were the scenes over the top? Well, yes, they were, but part of why I love watching soaps is to witness those grand, sweeping romantic gestures that are somewhat larger than life, but still grounded in reality. Lately, Y&R has had many rushed relationships, so I appreciated seeing a very classic type of soap moment that featured two beloved vets. Given the couple's past, I can't say that I have too much faith in Nikki and Victor making it this time around, but I sure did like watching them make the effort.
