By Naomi Rabinowitz Posted: Jan 20, 2011I know I tend to be very critical of Y&R (It's because I care!), but I'd like to focus on some of things I'm currently enjoying on the show.
1. Tricia Cast (Nina). Whether she's the star of the scene or simply reacting to someone else's dialogue, Cast always brings it. I'm not a huge fan of the Ronan/Heather/dirty cops/illness caper, but I am enjoying the portion of the storyline centered around Nina getting to better know her long lost son, Ronan. Thanks to Cast's portrayal, I can believe how badly she wants to bond with her child and am rooting for them to forge a solid relationship.
2. Daniel and Abby. When Y&R initially paired Daniel and Abby, I rolled my eyes. He'd just split from his wife, Amber, and Abby was running around town taking off her clothes. Frankly, I thought the idea of them becoming a couple was silly and rushed. However, their relationship has slowed down and now that I've gotten to know "adult" Abby (played by Marcy Rylan), I'm finding that I like her with Daniel. Aside from the Daisy craziness, I think that Daniel and Abby's romance is being realistically portrayed. They clearly care for one another, but are still in those early stages where they're not quite sure where to go next. I hope that the show continues to play these beats rather than rushing the still very young Daniel into a third marriage.
3. Tristan Rogers as Colin. Yeah, yeah, I know he's a bad guy, but I still love his scenes with Jess Walton's Jill — and give major props to Rogers for daring to prance around in a hot pink bathrobe for an episode. I suspect that Colin and Jill don't have a happy future ahead, but for now, I'm glad to see Jill having some fun — and the actors obviously having a good time as they do these scenes.
