Season 10 AMERICAN IDOL contestant, Robbie Rosen, is our new guest blogger! Be sure to come back to check out his insider perspective as the IDOL season progresses.
After the usual "ups", "downs", and "all-arounds" of Hollywood's infamous Group Night, a few standouts took to the stage. Nineteen-year-old Joshua Ledet gave a truly heartfelt rendition of Christina Perri's "Jar of Hearts", Shannon Magrane showed some pop with "What A Wonderful World", and my Season 10 buddy, Colton Dixon, shined on the keys with his version of Daughtry's "What About Now". After the dreaded "four-room split", all of these dynamic performers found themselves en route to Vegas. For me, singing on the Beatles stage was an incredible experience, with an authentic set, vibe and energy. This year, performing hits from the '50s, contestants thrived on the Viva Elvis stage. 16-year-old Jessica Sanchez showed off her RIDICULOUS vocals, while group mate and Season 10 talent DeAndre Brackensick wooed the judges with his soulful falsetto and great lower register. Vocal coach Elise Testone also brought it on the Vegas stage. Two interesting side notes: favorite Johnny Keyser was surprisingly cut without his group being shown … hmm … AND The Vocal Coach From Hell, who last season epitomized everything you love to hate, finally turns nice in the presence of the one, the only: Heejun Han.
