Let me begin this by stating that I do not condone violence in real life, unless it's absolutely necessary. That said, I don't mind a slap or a catfight every now and then on the soaps, especially if it's in a very dramatic scene and the move adds uh, punch, to the story. Still, BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL has gone completely overboard in the slapping-hitting-punching department. In a span of about two weeks, we've had Ridge punch Oliver, Stephanie slap Brooke, Stephanie slap Liam multiple times and then Ridge hit Liam, as well. When someone is smacked every once in a while, it adds shock value; i.e. If a usually passive character slaps a lover for cheating. But when it's done over and over again, each punch loses some impact (no pun intended). Both Ridge and Stephanie — especially the witty and wise Steph, who can cut you with a glance — are powerful characters who don't need to physically bully their rivals. A little bit of violence goes a long way.
