By Mara Levinsky Posted: Apr 21, 2010It's not that often that I'm reduced to a sobbing mess by an episode of AMC, but the Palmer memorial show certainly accomplished that trick. I won't give anything away for those who haven't seen it yet, but rest assured, it contains some surprises (be sure to watch through to the very end). What I can say without a spoiler alert is that the hour is packed with tasty flashbacks and heart-wrenching performances that speak to the richness of the real-life relationships James Mitchell forged with his castmates during his years as P.C., and that writer Lorraine Broderick couldn't have done a better job of crafting this episode with love and care. I spoke with several actors who were close to James and who participated in this episode, and they found it to be a healing experience. I hope those viewers who are mourning the loss of James, and of the irascible Palmer, feel the same.
