THIS JUST INEmmys 2009
The Emmy reactions are still rolling in!
A lot of people were surprised to see Alicia Minshew's (Kendall, AMC) name in Supporting Actress, not Lead, for the Emmys. The actress explained to Digest how she chose her category. "I was going to put myself in Lead just because it's to the point where I've been on the show seven years and I feel like I'm definitely one of the leading actresses," she says. "I put myself in Lead two years ago and this year, I thought, 'You know, this year I shared so many storylines with people, whereas in the past, I carried storylines.' This year, there were so many other people, like Bobbie Eakes [Krystal] and Debbi Morgan [Angie], and even Rebecca [Budig, ex-Greenlee] and Melissa [Claire Egan, Annie], that I felt like we were all sort of leading actresses together, all carrying storylines together. Plus, I was in a coma for a few months. So I thought, 'You know, I'm not sure this year that my work is enough to be in Lead.' The producers sort of left it up to me. I know a lot of people think, 'Well, why is Thorsten [Kaye, Zach] in Lead and you're not?' To me, I just wasn't sure that I would have enough strong material to go against the Lead actresses. I had taken a few months off to be in this coma and I didn't feel like I was leading every story, which I have felt like in the past. Sometimes, the supporting actresses work just as much as lead and are leads. I think it was just a matter, for me, of feeling like there were plenty of other people who deserved to be in Lead and I wasn't sure if I had the proper amount of material. Debbi Morgan got a nomination for lead and I think that she should have. It may change next year. I felt very comfortable with my decision to be in Supporting, and obviously, I'm glad I made that choice! It was the right choice."
Digest caught Younger Lead Actor nominee Darin Brooks (Max, DAYS) at the airport to get his take. "I am thoroughly stunned and excited but very happy for Rachel [Melvin, Chelsea], Blake [Berris, ex-Nick], Peter [Reckell, Bo] and Tamara [Braun, ex-Ava] and the show as a whole. This is fantastic! Last year we had four nominations and now we have five, plus the show. I hope everyone's proud of themselves because everyone has done such a great job. I can't wait to see what happens. I hope someone takes something home!"
Lead Actor nominee Daniel Cosgrove (Bill, GL) was at home when he got the news. "I completely forgot that they were going on," he shares. "To be 100 percent honest with you, I was in the most sacred and humble of places — I was on the toilet! It's just really nice. This is the end of GL and we've got such a great group of people. I would've loved to see [more cast members] get nods as well because they do such fantastic work."

Crystal Chapell was so, so, so robbed!! Many new viewers , and old ones are watching to see her story line! I felt for sure that as one of the best actors I have ever watch on any screen, she was a shoe in. This was just wrong.
Mary Ryland was also robbed, she has held that show together. If GL really goes (and I hope it does not) I am hoping that she gets picked up by another soap - maybe Lizzie and Billy could move to Genoa City !!!
Are you referring to the storylines currently airing for Crystal Chappell? These nominations were for LAST YEARS material, so keep that in mind.
The day Kelly Monaca and Cameron Matheson get nominated, is the day I stop watching tv! Congrats to Thorsten, Susan and Alicia!
Congrats to Julie Pinson on her nominee! It's definitely well deserved.
Greg Rikaart (Kevin, Young and Restless) should have been nominated! His work this year (and also in the past) has been phenomenal!
I am so excited that Days has been nominated for best show!
I think that Y&R,ATWT, & GL got screwed out of best soap opera.
Yeah Crystal for this year for sure!
One Life to Live was robbed! This was the best show of the year and for it to be omitted is shameful. I am glad, though, that Susan Haskell and Bree Williamson were nominated. They should sweep all of the production awards...writing, directing...all top notch. The Bold and the Beautiful's nomination for Outstanding Drama Series is a joke. It is totally unwatchable except for Susan Flannery. I do understand why GL was overlooked. The new look of the show is horrible. It is just unfortunate that good performances were overlooked. Crystal Chappel and Gina Tognoni in particular. I was shocked that Judith Chapman was not nominated for Supporting Actress. She is a treat.
If anyone was robbed it was Laura Wright. Her scenes after Michael was shot and slipped into a "permanent" coma were amazing. And as much as I despise the Claudia character, Sarah Brown is, as always, Emmy worthy.
Ihope Peter Reckell who plays Bo Brady gets Lead Actor Award because he so deserves it, because he is Bo Brady him&Kristen Alfonso who plays Hope Brady His wife have great chemistry together like magic After 20 plus together on screen.Days should also get an award for best soap.Allison Sweeney Who plays Sami Brady should also be awarded for Lead Actress because of her portrayal of Sami She is an excellent mother&changed into a goodperson trying to do the right thing forherkids.
I was surprised to see that Tamara Braun got nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Ava Vitali on "DAYS". That one was completely unexpected even though she was on the show for only six months. Tamara's nomination I think that makes her as one of the actors who got nominated after their role on a soap lasted only a short stint.
I have watchedall my children since 1977'it is my fsvorite soap. I hope it wins #1 Soap.
I'm not too happy with the nominations. I was utterly shocked Y&R didn't get Drama Series nomination after being nominated 25 years straight. I was very disgusted. I do hope B&B wins Best Drama. Looking at it next week, I'm not even sure
I was very disappointed in the Daytime Emmy Award tonight. It needed more to do with the Soaps and less to do with all that other stuff that was up there. Y & R wasn't nominated and only a few from the show even acnowledged. And whats up with Tamara Braun nominated and won the award for Days of our Lives, she wasn't on there but a short time, what about all the other actors that have been on there year after year giving it their all and they get nothing... Who does the nominating, it should be the Fans... Very happy about Christain LeBlanc and Darin Brooks winning awards. Greg Rikart and Billy from Y & R should have been nominated as well... Night to All
