Soap stars crawled out of the shimmering Beverly Hills woodwork for the Ninth Annual Soap Opera Digest Awards on February 26, where the big winner was -- surprise! -- DAYS OF OUR LIVES.

Hosted by Paul Reiser and Deidre Hall (Marlena, DAYS), the show honored soap fans' favorite show, actors, social-issue storyline and even soap song. Over 89,000 fans voted for their favorites.

AS THE WORLD TURNS's Laurence Caso and Douglas Marland (executive producer and head writer) were awarded the Editor's Award. Tragically, Marland died of complications following abdominal surgery a week after his triumphant evening.

While DAYS took home favorite show and a slew of other awards, ATWT received its first ever when Yvonne Perry (Rosanna) won Outstanding Female Newcomer. ATWT soon made up for lost time with Ellen Dolan's (Margo) win for Outstanding Supporting Actress and Outstanding Social-Issue Storyline (Margo's Rape). Two-time Emmy winner Peter Bergman (Jack, YOUNG AND RESTLESS) added another award to his stash, taking home a trophy for Outstanding Lead Actor.
