Out of high school Stephen Nichols was offered an art scholarship to Ohio State University, but he turned it down in favor of traveling west. There he studied Yoga and lived as a monk while he prepared vegetarian meals for the monks and nuns in a Hollywood ashram.

He is survived by his wife Lori Kay Biggs, sons Richard James Biggs III and Hunter Lee Biggs, parents retired Col. and Mrs. Richard James Biggs, and four sisters: Juanita, Maria, Alicia and Celia.
